Step 1 : Admission requirements

Admission into a Diploma requires the achievement of a National Senior Certificate (NSC) with the minimum requirements for admission into a diploma or a National Certificate (Vocational) NC(V). In addition, each education institution has its own unique entry requirements for each of its programmes. It is important to check the entry requirements for this programme with the institution of your choice before you apply.

Upon completion of the qualification, a Registered Veterinary Nursing Student needs to obtain workplace experience over a minimum period of 14 days in a private veterinary hospital or a veterinary clinic under supervision of a Registered Veterinarian before one can register as a Veterinary Nurse with the SAVC.

The Certificate in the Theory of Accounting (CTA) is offered by SAICA-accredited universities.

- Part 1 of the Qualifying Examination
Part I of the Qualifying Examination or the Initial Test of Competence (ITC) is an exam set by SAICA. This is the standard setting exam which is written after the completion of the CTA and is an assessment of core competence. To be eligible to write this exam a candidate must hold a CTA that has been accredited by SAICA.

Upon completion of the CTA, a candidate can enter into a 3-year learnership with a SAICA approved training organisation (ATO) (to specialise in financial management).
Step 6 : Final assessment

This is the final written assessment of professional competence (Financial Management). To be eligible to write this exam, one must first: Pass Part I of the Qualifying Exam/the ITC; successfully complete a relevant specialist programme; and complete no less than 18 months of the learnership.

- Designation: Chartered Accountant (SA) (CA(SA))
This designation is awarded by SAICA upon completion of the learning pathway as described above. To retain this designation one has to remain a paid-up member and satisfy all the membership requirements of SAICA. A designation is a title that professional persons may use (write behind their name) to indicate that they are fully qualified in a certain professional field and are members of a professional body. It also indicates that the persons subscribe to the code of conduct of that professional body.
